If you haven't read this series, you're missing out on some serious laughs!

AssassinationcoverThey say you can’t judge a book by its cover, but you can sure tell by the bright pink smiley face on the front that this is not your normal manga. The covers for the series are a genius work of minimalist design based on the hilariously simplistic face of the main character, Koro Sensei. The first was yellow, the second green with yellow stripes and the third hot pink. This one will really stand out on bookshelves. And it’s not just because it looks pretty, the octopus-like Koro Sensei communicates his emotions with patterns or by turning different colors. If you haven’t got on the Assassination Classroom train yet, you’re missing out on a funny and very unique story!

Assination001

Koro Sensei is a strange being that has destroyed most of the moon and will blow up Earth in a year. Because he’s so fast, the military has been unable to lay a hand on him. And now he’s become a teacher to a class of misfits who will be handsomely rewarded if they can put him down for good. And he’s going to do everything he can to help them—both with their studies and assassination attempts! A great setup that’s rife with comedic possibilities, but can the magic keep going all the way through the third volume? Yep.

The story starts with the students getting tangled up with some delinquents on a school trip. These ruffians get more than they bargain for when they mess with students who have been trained to become efficient killers by both the government and Koro Sensei himself! The rest of the trip focuses on a skilled sniper and his attempts to add another body count (Koro Sensei) to his already high number.

Assassiation003

The next segment is about a highly advanced student who is actually a robot! A flat screen with the image of a cute girl on it. Technically it’s a student, so Koro Sensei is not allowed to hurt it. But it has no qualms about launching attack-after-attack at Koro Sensei with all manner of sophisticated weaponry. This story was particularly cute and will make you love the already quite lovable octopus-like teacher even more.

Assassin004

Both of these story segments are hilarious and filled with heartwarming moments as Koro Sensei deals with his would-be assassins in his usual chipper way. Aside from his usual wacky antics, he’s ridiculously sweet, and instead of getting mad at his assassins, he seems to enjoy their attempts, especially if they’re clever.

I’m not going to ruin any of the gags in the manga, but I am happy to say this volume is as funny as the others and good for some serious chuckles or downright belly laughs. This is one of the funniest manga I’ve ever read, and I have no doubt you’ll feel the same way if you give it a chance.
