I Fought the Claw!

Tear your enemies to shreds with this deadly card!

By Urian Brown July 16, 2015

Joey was the last recipient of a Legendary Dragon in the Waking the Dragons storyline, and his Dragon may be the most unique of them all. While The Eye of Timaeus and The Fang of Critias were used to create new monsters with incredible powers, The Claw of Hermos took monsters and crafted them into weapons for other monsters to wield!

When The Claw of Hermos resolves, you send a Warrior, Spellcaster, or Dragon-Type monster from your hand or your side of the field to the Graveyard and Summon a monster of that same Type from your Extra Deck that says it must be Summoned by The Claw of Hermos. Then, that monster will activate an ability that equips it to another monster on the field. That effect always activates no matter what, so make sure that you control a monster, otherwise you’ll have to equip your opponent’s monster!

Time Wizards

Sending a Spellcaster, like Time Wizard, to the Graveyard with The Claw of Hermos results in Time Magic Hammer. As an Equip Card, it lets your monster whack your opponent’s monsters into the future instead of attacking them normally. When a monster equipped with Time Magic Hammer battles a monster, you can roll a six-sided die, and then banish the monster being attacked until the Nth Standby Phase afterwards, where N is the result of the roll.

Sending a Warrior to the Graveyard with The Claw of Hermos has two possible results. You could Summon Rocket Hermos Cannon, which lets the equipped monster attack twice per Battle Phase and inflict piercing battle damage. Alternatively, you can create Goddess Bow, which negates the first card or effect activated by your opponent during each Battle Phase and afterwards grants the equipped monster a second attack during that Battle Phase. Rocket Hermos Cannon was originally created from Joey’s Rocket Warrior, while Goddess Bow was created when Yugi used The Claw of Hermos on his Queen’s Knight.

Queens Knight

Finally, if you send a Dragon to the Graveyard with The Claw of Hermos you get Red-Eyes Black Dragon Sword! Red-Eyes Black Dragon Sword gives the equipped monster a flat 1000 ATK boost, plus 500 ATK and DEF for every Dragon-Type monster on the field and in the Graveyards. Because you used a Dragon to make the Sword, that’s a minimum 1500 ATK boost, but in practice it’ll probably be even more. Joey used Red-Eyes Black Dragon to do this, but you can reap a huge benefit by taking a page from Kaiba’s playbook. Send The White Stone of Legend to the Graveyard with The Claw of Hermos and you’ll get to equip your Red-Eyes Black Dragon Sword and grab a Blue-Eyes White Dragon from your Deck!

The mysterious powers of The Claw of Hermos can be difficult but rewarding to master, and you’ll have your shot at it when Dragons of Legend 2 launches on Friday, July 17th!
