Nihongo Lesson 06/24/16

Begin your magical journey to learn Japanese with this lesson!

By John Bae June 24, 2016

Welcome to the Nihongo Lesson feature. We strive to give you useful manga-based Japanese language tips and maybe even a glimpse into the translation process. This week's lesson will feature some terms from everyone's favorite magical manga, Black Clover !

MAHOU (まほう)

Quick refresher! MAHOU means "magic." This term shows up in practically every chapter of Black Clover. The sheer number of crazy magic styles that Tabata Sensei has introduced so far is one of the best parts about this series!

HENSHIN (へんしん)

HENSHIN means "transformation." What a surprise in this week's chapter as we see the true form of the transforming mage Grey. Who saw that coming? Grey is a neat character who can transform herself and objects around her. It'll be interesting to see how she uses that ability in future battles!

WATA (わた)

WATA is "cotton" and is the type of magic that Charmy uses. As a small‑statured and cute girl who eats all the time, you would think Charmy and her cotton magic wouldn't pose any kind of threat. But boy would you be wrong. With the right motivation, she might be the most powerful character in the entire magical realm!
