PSYchic power!

Your opponent's impending demise is in the cards!

The beginning of the Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s era coincided with the first new monster Type since the original twenty that had been around since the dawn of Dueling. Psychic-Type monsters debuted in The Duelist Genesis and were all about paying LP for strong effects and Synchro Summon. Since then, Psychic-Type monster effects have evolved into more of what you might expect from a psychic: powers based on prediction!

High-Speed Riders embodies everything that makes Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D’s great, and that includes Psychic monsters. The PSY-Frame theme revolves around predicting your opponent’s moves, countering them perfectly and then Synchro Summoning! There are five “PSY-Framegear” monsters, one for each of the basic game actions: Summoning, attacking, using a Spell, using a Trap and using a monster effect. All of them are Tuner monsters. If your opponent performs an action that matches one of your PSY-Framegears while you control no monsters, you can Summon the PSY-Framegear from your hand, Summon the Level 6 Normal Monster PSY-Frame Driver from your hand, Deck or Graveyard, and perform a counter to your opponent’s action.

PSY-Framegear Alpha responds to Normal or Special Summons and lets you add any other “PSY-Frame” monster from your Deck to your hand. PSY-Framegear Beta responds to attacks, destroying the attacking monster and ending the Battle Phase. PSY-Framegear Gamma negates the activation of monster effects and destroys the monster whose effect activated. PSY-Framegear Delta negates Spell Cards, and PSY-Framegear Epsilon does the same to Traps.

The PSY-Frame monsters Summoned by these effects are banished at the end of the turn, so you’ll want to Synchro Summon before the end of the turn. Normally you can’t do this during your opponent’s turn, but the Field Spell PSY-Frame Circuit lets you Synchro Summon immediately after Summoning a “PSY-Frame” monster, even if it’s your opponent’s turn. If you don’t have access to this Field Spell, you can also use the Trap Card PSY-Frame Overload, which lets you banish monsters from your hand or field to banish opposing cards face-down.

If you do Synchro Summon, you can grab PSY-Framelord Zeta or PSY-Framelord Omega, depending on which monsters you used. These monsters have high ATK and the ability to remove themselves from the field at will and return later, so you can keep using PSY-Framegear abilities. They’re also tough to get rid of permanently because they can keep returning to the Extra Deck if they’re destroyed while recycling your own cards or disrupting your opponent’s Graveyard.
