Ritual Beast Mode!

Tame your Dueling inner beast with these cards!

By John Bae February 18, 2015

The Nekroz monsters weren’t the only new group of monsters sneakily introduced in Secrets of Eternity ! Ritual Beasts also arrived undetected, and now with The Secret Forces , you can finally unleash their might.

The Ritual Beast monsters are separated into three groups. First are the Ritual Beast Tamers. Ritual Beast Tamer Lara, Ritual Beast Tamer Elder and Ritual Beast Tamer are all Level 3 or lower WIND Psychic-Type monsters with effects that let you Summon more Ritual Beast monsters. Because they’re low-Level Psychic monsters, you can even pull them straight from your Deck using Emergency Teleport from Legendary Collection 5D’s . You won’t be able to use their abilities this way, but that doesn’t necessarily matter because Emergency Teleport is an extra Summon itself.

In general, you'll want to use the extra Summons you get from your Ritual Beast Tamers to Summon a Spiritual Beast monster. Each Spiritual Beast lets you banish a Ritual Beast card, usually from your hand, to do something. During either player’s turn, Spiritual Beast Apelio can provide a 500 ATK and DEF boost to every Ritual Beast monster that shows up on your side of the field for the rest of that turn. Spiritual Beast Cannahawk and Spiritual Beast Pettelphin can only use their effects during your own turn, but they're both extremely important. Pettlephin can bounce one of your opponent's cards on the field back to their hand, and Cannahawk replicates the effect of Gold Sarcophagus, banishing a Ritual Beast card from your Deck instead of your hand and letting you claim it two turns later.

Ygo Ritual 2

Why do you want to banish all these cards? Because you can only Special Summon one of each Ritual Beast Tamer and Spiritual Beast Tamer per turn, and if you want to keep dropping high-powered “Ritual Beast Ulti” Fusion Monsters on your opponent you’ll need all the different Summons you can get!

Ritual Beast Ulti-Apelio, Ritual Beast Ulti-Cannahawk and Ritual Beast Ulti-Pettelphin are all Summoned from your Extra Deck by banishing any Ritual Beast Tamer and any Spiritual Beast from your side of the field. Ulti-Apelio has the same effect as the gargantuan Star Eater. Ulti-Cannahawk sends banished Ritual Beasts to the Graveyard to let you search your Deck for “Ritual Beast” cards, and Pettelphin is a huge defender that can’t be destroyed by card effects. If you have enough different Ritual Beast monsters available, it’s possible to Summon every single available Ritual Beast monster including all of the Fusions in a single turn, attacking with Apelio, searching with Cannahawk, and finishing with Pettelphin to defend.

Ygo Ritual 3

And you can do all of that every turn. You’ll want to use Ulti-Cannahawk to search out the various Ritual Beast Spell and Trap Cards to help you continue your combos or just wreck opposing monsters. Ritual Beast Steeds is a Trap that destroys monsters on the field up to the number of Ritual Beasts you control. Ritual Beast’s Bond lets you Special Summon Fusion Monsters during your opponent’s turn, so if your combo comes up short you can still defend yourself. Ritual Beast Ambush from Secrets of Eternity lets you Special Summon Ritual Beast Tamers and Spiritual Beasts that are banished or in your Graveyard.
