If you read enough manga, you begin to get a sense for when something comes along that's "special." One pattern I've noticed for manga that succeeds is the ability to hook the reader in the first chapter, and then start to reel them in immediately. The first chapter of this series had a great hook with the ghost in the go board. This chapter introduces the main rival and gives you great insight into his character. It's the stories that have a clear direction that seem to succeed. And this one definitely knows where it's go-ing. Haha, a little joke there.
