Duelists! O Duelists!
Come, pointy-haired Duelists! Get your Spell Cards ready! Have you your Monsters? Have you your sharp-edged Traps? Because this month, Shonen Jump Alpha wants YOUR original strategies!
Pushing the Limits
The Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game is about three things: Friendship. Adaptability. Strategy. Gruesome monsters fighting to the death. (Okay, that’s four.) All of these depend on Duelists swapping ideas, on the battlefield or off, so this month, it’s your turn to go global. Pioneer the way and send us your favorite strategy or card combo. Think you can knock our socks off with your ingenious strategy? Then our socks stand at the ready!
Guidelines
Tell us about your favorite card-combo in the comments section below, and we’ll feature the top five next month! When selecting strategies, we'll keep the following in mind:
Originality: Can you think of a way to use a card that always seemed pointless? Maybe you can find a shortcut that makes your strongest monster super-easy?
Playability: Yu-Gi-Oh! heroes always draw the cards they need when they need them. Too bad that you need luck and Deck building skills in real life. Make sure someone could realistically play a combo, then double-check it on the Forbidden and Limited lists.
Effectiveness: What does your combo do? Is it worth the time, skill and luck you’ll need to set it up? Are there any other cards that can do the same thing more easily? Think about all these things before submitting. You may find a way to make your strategy even better than it is already!
To Pay or Not To Pay
Not all costs are bad. When you look at a card with a high cost, try to think of a way this could help you. Could having lower life points be a good thing? Would lowering or raising a monster’s Level help with more than just summoning Synchros or Xyz monsters? The answer may surprise you!
Mix and Match
Card archetypes support themselves, it’s true. But can you find a way to make two archetypes support each other? Would adding a Lightsworn improve your Amazoness deck? Could a Naturia help your Warriors? Go on, get crazy. You might strike strategy gold!

Not on the card
If its not on the card it doesn't get that effect. Duh. That was just sj messing up like they did with alpha
Not Enough!
When you start a Duel you have five cards in your hand. When you draw, you have six. Special Summon "Day Breaker" with "Photon Lead" and Special Summon two more with the first's effect. Now you only have two cards in your hand. (One is "Ra", and the other is "Dark Hole".) Still not enough! I did some research, and for "Ra's" OTK, you need one more card. This is an OTK:
First, play "Dark Hole". Next, play three "Fiend's Sanctuary". Then, play one Spell Card that inflicts Direct Effect Damage to your opponent (preferably "Ookazi" or "Hinotama"). Tribute all three Tokens for "Ra". Use its first effect and pay 7900 Life Points and attack your opponent directly and win the Duel! Enjoy!

Came Twice!
It came twice! My comment came twice! Seriously?
Annoyingly awesome
mind control opponents rank 5 or 6 and over lay it for gaia dragon hehehe.........
Funny
I have a card combo/deck forum on sja and this got way more combos hahaha
Easy Blue-Eyes Ultimate summoning
I like to get Lady of D. out on the field to protect any dragons I might have out, especially if it's one of my Blue-Eyes. When the opponent tries to destroy her, I use her effect to send White Stone of Legend to the graveyard to keep her on the field and add another Blue-Eyes to my hand in one move. Then it's just a matter of getting Polymerization ready, and I have my BE Ultimate out, ready to get my Blue-Eyes Shining into the fray.
Divine Intervention To Taste the Rainbow!
My deck has 2 different strategies, getting either Divine Neos or Rainbow Neos (preferred) out as soon as possible. For Divine Neos, I usually have to use Future Fusion, the materials I use are Bladedge, Ice Edge, Heat, Flare Scarab, and Neos Alius. I use them for the effects they have on Divine Neos. When he's summoned, I usually go for a 3000 direct attack by banishing Ice Edge, Then I banish Bladedge for piercing damage, then the other 2 for raising atk strength. My deck is also filled with multiple ways of summoning Rainbow Neos, which, when I have him on the field, I'm in pretty good shape. I have King of the Swamp, Beastking of the Swamps, Elemental Hero Prisma, etc. as well as cards to search out. So I can get him out pretty easily.
Special Summon Odin without synchro summon
The best things to have for this deck is special summon cards like call if the haunted or wicked rebirth. Another is cards that discard from the extra deck like gale dogra. First summon gale dogra and pay the 3000 life points to discard Odin or any othe high level synchro monster and then set call of the haunted or wicked rebirth and then during your oppenents turn or your next turn activate one of the traps and special summon Odin or any othe monster that was discarded. And if you use a Nordic deck it's even better because you can use those spell and traPs early in the duel.
wont work
synchro monster have to be properly synchro summoned in order to special summon them from the grave, if u ditch them with cards like gale dogra u cannot then monster reborn/call of the haunted etc on them them cuz they havent been properly summoned by synchro summoned first.
NOOOOOOO!
just as someone thinks of a good use for that card. i have it and don't kno wat 2 do w/ it
Ancient Gear Comboes
Magical Hats x1
Use it to get 2 Geartowns from the deck, regardless of how they get destroyed (opponent's attacks or Magical hat's effect at end of phase) You can then go snag 2 Ancient Gear Gadjiltron Dragons.
Another strategy I use is to summon either ancient gear cannon or ancient gear and then Machine Duplication 2 more copies out so that I can XYZ into Dark Mist.
pearl beatdown
Use summoner monk to xyz summon pearl while you have infected mail on the field along with two counter traps to save yourself. select pearl as infected mail's target. activate oni-gami combo so he can attack twice. power him up with two axe of despairs and otk your opponent.
TRAGOEDIA'S Infinite Wishes
TRAGOEDIA, the spell card INFINITE CARDS, the trap card SOLEMN WISHES, & 3 counter traps.
u go first, play the spell & set the traps and end. opponent's turn: they play monster attack u directly, u special summon TRGOEDIA and activate SOLEMN WISHES, they end. u keep drawing and gaing life points and TRAGOEDIA keeps gaing attack points. when opponent attack Tragoedia while its weak, activaite counter traps. only weakness is cards like MYSTICAL SPACE TYPHOON & HEAVY STORM.
heh.
just came up with that while looking at this. PEOPLE! help make it better please
when it come out
when it comes out slifer could be used 2.
whoops

FUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU
i can't seem 2 get this right
quick rank 3xyz
xPower Giant
xLightserpent
Normal summon Power Giant with its effect, by discarding 1 monster (Lightserpent). Power Giant will lost 3 levels from discarding Lightserpent. Lightserpent will be special summoned due to its effect of being sent to the graveyard from your hand. Since both or level 3, feel free to xyz summon any rank 3
Summon a god card in one turn
Activate Frontline Base, and use it's effect to special summon Heavy Mech Support Platform. Then, use Machine Duplication to special summon two more from the deck. You still have one more normal summon, so tribute the three Heavy Mech Support Platforms to summon Slifer/Obelisk/Ra.
multi summon
1.future fusion- to fusion summon Chimeratech Overdragon
1a. send Quillbolt hedgehog X3 to graveyard + other machine type monster
2.ritual summon-Relinquish and absorb opponent monster
3.summon Junk synchron and bring back all quillbolts from grave yard
4.synchro-summon Junk Warrior and absorb all level 2 and below ATK points (this includes Relinqish newly added attack due to its ability)
5.xyz-summon the other two quiltbolts and soon overdragon comes in play.
all four special monster are summon and a new way to boost power and summon monsters in one turn (except of chimeratech whiched did provided the quillbolts)
Moja Deck
This may not be the best deck, but i find it fun and creative...
This deck revolves around the level1 beast type monster Moja with 100 ATK 100 DEF. When its destroyed by battle you can add a level 4 or lower beast to your hand.
The cards i most frequently use in this deck make it easy to Synchro summon.
These cards include:
Egotistical Ape (Level Changing Special Summoning Tuner)
Super-Nimble Mega Hamster (Summons face down beast, best with Tanngrisnir)
Tanngrisnir of the Nordic Beasts (summons 2 level 4 tokens when destroyed)
Guldfaxe of the Nordic Beasts (level 4 beast tuner no requirements or limits on summon or effect)
Scrap Chimera (special summons scrap beast in this case)
Scrap Beast (level 4 tuner good for summoning a quick scrap or level 8 Synchro)
The amount of these or the following cards you use depends on your variation of the deck
The main combo of this deck that i love most however will happen over time and will always include these monsters:
Moja (effect doesn't really matter here once you get these cards out or in your hand)
Scrap Dragon (tribute 1 of yours to destroy 1 of opponents)
And most importantly of all:
Kinka-Byo (a level 1 beast spirit monster that will always return to your hand for re-use the following turn if not destroyed)
Besides that effect of Kinka-Byo it also special summons a level 1 beast from grave when it is summoned (Moja) and combine this with scrap dragon and you get one destroy per turn for as long as you can maintain it with little to no costs.
However be careful of Kinka-Byo 's other effect that states if it is removed from field it will also remove the monster on field. So be sure at the end of the turn the monster you summoned with Kinka-Byo is no longer on the field or is tribute for something else.
Again you can edit this deck to many ways this is my prefered way along with other monsters such as:
Beast Striker (support for Moja)
King of Beasts (support for Moja)
And I like lots of Synchros in this deck as well, the easiest to summon are level 5, 7, 8, or 10 's.
Some of the ones I use and fit well are:
Stardust Dragon (level 8 negater)
Black Rose (level 7 destroy everything)
Thunder Unicorn (level 5 ATK decreaser)
Voltic Bicorn (level 7 deck miller for opponent and you)
Scrap Dragon (1 for 1 as explained above)
Thor, Lord of the Aesir (level 10 that's good for the Nordics i include in this deck and is pretty easy to summon)
To summon Thor, Lord of the Aesir I usually use the combo of mega hamster when flipped up and destroyed to put Tanngrisnir face down which when destroyed by battle summons 2 level 3 tokens, if i have Guldfaxe in hand i can summon Thor next turn (which negates monster effects and when destroyed & revived inflicts damage).
If my opponent has a ton of monsters attacking i try to use instead of Tanngrisnir after hamster, I use 1 or 2 Giant Rats to keep the defense up until he has attacked 2-4 times then when its approaching his last attack summon the Tanngrisnir through Giant Rat so his last attack (if he chooses to attack) will be Tanngrisnir.
If you prefer any other monsters that require a tribute to penalize your opponent over Scrap Dragon Id use those. But only if it doesn't require a normal summon. Because to do the infinite Scrap-Kinka-Moja chain you would have already normal summoned Kinka to summon Moja, so the replaced monster should be Scrap Dragon.
For spells and traps i prefer cards that negate my monsters destruction because that can be a weakness as well as some Gold Sarcophagus' to add chosen cards to your hand. Draw cards are also good as well as staples. But i love including a few creature swaps in there because of my low level Moja's with 100 ATK. Swap that in Attack Position with 1 of your opponents powerful monsters inflict massive damage with an attack +if you get the right monster activate its effects. And when Moja returns to your grave you also get its effect of adding a level 4 or lower beast from grave to hand!
Thats why i like this deck, its fun and stupid yet at the same time you can use it strategically!
Correction
I meant level 3 Tanngrisnir tokens back at the start when i first mentioned Tanngrisnir.
rush
Special summon Cyber Dragon. Then special summon The Tricky and Power Giant. Finally, normal summon Swift Gaia< the Fierce Knight.
Is my Future Fusion Fake?
I've been told that the Future Fusion card I have is fake. They say that the real one says,
Reveal 1 Fusion Monster in your Extra Deck and send, from your Main Deck to the Graveyard, the Fusion Material Monsters that are listed on that Fusion Monster Card. During your 2nd Standby Phase after this card's activation, Special Summon 1 of that Fusion Monster from your Extra Deck and target it with this card. (This Special Summon is treated as a Fusion Summon.) When this card leaves the field, destroy that target. When that target is destroyed, destroy this card.
Mine is
Send from you deck to the Graveyard, Fusion Material Monsters that are listed on the fusion monster card, and select that 1 fusion monster from your fusion deck. Special summon a fusion monster from you Fusion deck with the same name as the selected fusion monster during your 2nd standby phase after this cards activation. (this special summon is treated as a fusion summon.) When this card is removed from the field destroy the monster. When the monster is destroyed, destroy this card.
Can I still use this one or do I have to buy another one?
.....
There the same effect in different words.... I pretty sure your good...
You Can Use It
What your's says is exactly what it says in the Yu-Gi-Oh! 5D's: World Championship 2010: Reverse of Arcadia and http://www.toywiz.com/potd044futurefusion.html. It's like me and my friend's "Necrovalley" card. His is from the Pharaonic Guardian Booster Pack, and mine is from Structure Deck: Marik. It's like "Elemental HERO Absolute Zero" (or "Elemental Hero Absolute Zero").
The one from Generation Force Special Edition says:
[Warrior/Fusion/Effect]
1 "HERO" monster + 1 WATER monster
Must be Fusion Summoned and cannot be Special Summoned by other ways. This card gains 500 ATK for each face-up WATER monster on the field, except for "Elemental HERO Absolute Zero". When this c ard leaves the field: Destroy all monsters your opponent controls.
The one from Yu-Gi-Oh! GX Volume 4 says:
[Warrior/Fusion/Effect]
1 "elemental Hero", "Destiny Hero", or "Evil Hero" monster + 1 WATER monster
This monster cannot be Special Summoned except by Fusion Summon. This card gains 500 ATK for each face-up WATER monster on the field, exept "Elemental Hero Absolute Zero". When this card is removed from the field, destroy all monsters your opponent controls.
Since the release of Generation Force, there has been many new changes, such as:
* All "Hero" monsters become "HERO" monsters
* The logo changed
* Monsters that have been removed from play are banished
* Instead of selecting monsters, you target them
* Fusion and Synchro monsters say: Must be Fusion/Synchro Summoned and cannot be Special Summoned by other ways
* And more
So, yeah, you may use your "Future Fusion" card.
Stall Barrier
Have astral barrier, spirt barrier set and at least one monster. During your opposing players turn activate all three traps before battle phase. When your opponet tries to attack use astral barrier's effect to make it a direct attack, since you have spirit barrier and a monster you take no damage. Imperial custom is optional, but I recomend it for a bit of protection. This is just a fun combo I use sometimes in my final countdown and burn decks. Have fun and enjoy.
Combo Hilarity
OK, so in my main deck, which is a mish-mash of various shenanigans, I like to use in my main deck 3 Amazoness Swords Woman because these things are absolutely stellar.
For those of you who aren't familiar, it's 1500/1600 monster with an amazing effect. Any battle damage that you would take involving battles with Amazoness Swords Woman is applied to your Opponent instead.
I like to combo this with Lava Golem. I tribute their two big beatsticks for a Lava Golem in DEF which is great, with my Swords Woman on the field already. I then proceed to run into the Lava Golem for an extra 1000 damage. I then chain Gravity Bind and Mask of Restrict (I run 2 of these) during their turn, so that shiny new 3000 ATK Lava Golem is completely useless, and just sits there burning them.
Banishing cards?
Can you banish cards straight from your hand or field to the graveyard or does it require a card effect to banish them?
Banish Laws
You can't banish with out a reason. A card has to say it can be banished. For example,
Black Luster Solider Envoy the beginning: (This card cannot be Normal Summoned or Set. This card can only be Special Summoned by removing from play 1 LIGHT and 1 DARK monster in your Graveyard. Once during each of your turns, you can select and activate 1 of the following effects:
● Select 1 monster on the field, and remove it from play. If you activate this effect, this card cannot attack during this turn.
● If this card destroyed your opponent's monster by battle, it can attack once again in a row. )
BLS needs one light monster and one dark monster in the grave yard to be banished. You can't banish a light monster and dark monster from you hand because BLS's effect states that those two monsters have to be in the grave yard. Banishing by any other effects, such as Dimensional Fissure (Any monster sent to the Graveyard is banished instead.) is considered an effect by Dimensional Fissure and not BLS because the monsters were banished because of the effect of Dimensional Fissure and therefor BLS's requirement can not be met because the monster were banished instead of being placed in the grave yard.
Yes, it can quite confusing when you banished your monster on purpose to full fill monster requirements but 99% of the time, the summoning requirements can be met with out the help of other cards.
Examples of monster cards that need the help of other cards to be summoned are mostly all rituals, Harpie Lady Sisters, Toon World monsters, and when in doubt, read the card. If it doesn't list the name of another card specifically, you are allowed to follow the requirements with out the help of other cards.
I hope this helps.
Banishing.
I would greatly appreciate if someone could answer my question. Thanks!
Banish Laws
As long as it doesn't say "When this card is banished" You can banish any card that reads "Banish one card from your hand and or etc..." A good example would be Necro Gardna "During your opponent's turn: You can banish this card from your Graveyard; negate 1 attack from a monster your opponent controls." Usually, the card is really straight forward. I can answer your question better if you list what card you're having trouble with, happens all the time and everyone gets better by asking how it works.
Okay!
So say I had a lightpulsar dragon in my hand, and I had a red eyes b. dragon and blue eyes white dragon in the grave. Would I say I banish the them in order to summon lightpulsar dragon? Or is that how it works? Thnk you for the reply btw.
Banish Laws
Yes, That's exactly how it works. The banished cards are the requirement to summon the monster.
Lightpulsar dragon (You can Special Summon this card (from your hand) by banishing 1 LIGHT and 1 DARK monsters from your Graveyard. You can Special Summon this card (from your Graveyard) by sending 1 LIGHT and 1 DARK monsters from your hand to the Graveyard. When this card is sent from the field to the Graveyard: You can target 1 Level 5 or higher DARK Dragon-Type monster in your Graveyard; Special Summon that target.)
You just say "Banish light and dark to summon light pulsar dragon." That's completely legal and you don't even have to say from the grave yard or hand. Why? because if the cards are in your hand, your doing it from the hand, and if the cards are in your grave yard, you're foe is can tell right away what you're doing. NOTE: It's completely legal to ask your foe to read his card and retrace how he was able to summoned his monster. Like wise, your foe can ask you as well.
What you were thinking about was "When a light and dark monster is banished, special summon this card from your hand" This means a light and a dark monster have to be banished at the same time. That would be really difficult to bring out this monster.
Because it says "When" You have to wait for it to happen and then summon the monster because the requirements were met. A good example is Torrential Tribute (WHEN a monster(s) is Summoned: Destroy all monsters on the field.) The WHEN part lets the player know that it has to happen naturally.
NOTE: Cards with When or if on it aren't that bad. Take for example Cyber Dragon (if your opponent controls a monster and you control no monsters, you can Special Summon this card (from your hand). This type or requirement is still a When but this "WHEN" is specific. You can still treat is as ( When your opponent controls a monster and you control no monsters, you can Special Summon this card (from your hand) It's still the same thing but here is why many people use cyber dragon. If any play has three cyber dragons in there hand, and if the meet the requirements, any player can special summon all three cyber dragons at the same time. Just as long as cyber dragon didn't say "This effect had to resolve before any other effect" Then you wouldn't be able to do this.
NOTE: If you have three light pulsar dragons in your hand, you can't do the same things as cyber dragon because it doesn't say WHEN. It says, banish one light and one dark. Meaning you'll have to banish 3 lights and three dark monsters to special summon all three monsters. Lucky for players, if you had two lightpulsar dragons in your hand and had one light and dark monster in your hand, you can send the one light monster and the one dark monster from your hand to the grave yard to special summon lightpulsar dragon and then special summon the 2nd light pulsar dragon by banishing the light and dark monsters that were sent to the graveyard to special summon him. Awesome right?
Thank you!
Thank you for the reply, it really cleared things up for me. I just recently started collecting again and all these new monsters (xyz, synchro, number) have got me all confused, but I get it now thanks to you!
two turn kill
in hand: uria, 3 pitch black powerstone, summoner monk, magical citadel of endymion, and any spell card.
set the pitch black powerstones and summon summoner monk.
activate summoner monk's effect to special summon road warrior.
synchro summon to get tempest magician.
play magical citadel of endymion.
attack to kill any pesky monsters
wait for next turn...
activate all pitch black powerstones
special summon uria
activate uria's effect to get rid of a spell or trap
activate tempest magician's effect
attack and kill
*NOTE*it has to be second turn because you have to activate the pitch black powerstones. they are traps.
Joey Combo!!!!
Have you ever wondered how Joey could ever just play his Flame Swordsman with no fusion or tribute and wish you could do the same? Then you've read the right post!!! In fact I have a way to get him or an even stronger Joey fusion while using one of his signiture cards.
Step 1: Have Fusion Gaurd and Call Of The Hounted set.
Step 2: Play Time Wizards effect or activate Grave Robber to take a spell card from your opponents grave.
Step 3: Fail Time Wizards coin toss or use to spell taken from your opponent; then chain Fusion Guard to whatever card effect used and dump a random fusion. depeneding on your fusion deck options this card could be Flame Swordsman, Thousand Dragon, Black Skull Dragon, or Red Eyes Meteor Dragon.
Step 4: Play Call Of The Hounted and summon your dumped fusion and crush your opponent with a warrior's flaming sword or a dragon's furious fang!
My gave card and combo!

Five- headed dragon
Can play on turn one depending on luck of hand when starts.
1) play painful choice, choose 5 dragon types & 4 will be sent to graveyard.
2) play graceful charity draw 3 & discard 2 ( 1 of which is another dragon).
3) play dragon's mirror, remove 5 dragons in the graveyard 7 summon five- headed dragon.
Fun combo
Hand:
1x Future Fusion
1x Polymerization
2x Blue Eyes White Dragon
1x Monster Reborn
1x Dragons Mirror
Play future fusion, reveal Five Headed Dragon, get rid of a third Blue Eyes and Red-Eyes Darkness Metal Dragon along with 3 other dragons. Monster Reborn REDMD, special summon Blue Eyes from grave, fuse all three for Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon, play Dragons Mirror and bring out FHD.
Yes I know how unlikely this combo is to happen, but I played it once and it was rather amusing.
Hieratic Full OTK stop
You need to have negate attack on the field, potentially something to protect it as well. You also need Effect Veiler in your hand along with Hieratic Seal of Supremacy and a quick summon Hieratic monster, or a Tefnuit and Gebeb/Eset along with Dragonic Tactics. They summon the full OTK with Gustav Max, which you Veiler. They attack, use negate attack. Your turn, summon your Hieratics and use Tactics to bring out Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon and two lvl 8 seals. XYZ summon Neo-Galaxy Eyes and use effect to swing for game.
ra 7900 atk!
first, special cyber dragon/ vice dragon/photon thrasher. the give your opponent grinder. treibute the 2 tokens and the cyber dragon and summon winged dragon. You can do whatever but i would pay 1000 points to destroy golem. then you get ra with 6900 atk.
won't work because grinder
won't work because grinder golem won't let you tribute on the same turn,
and even if you found a way to get around this, ra's lp ability would take place before ra's card destroying ability would take effect
My Main Strategy
Alright, I run a warrior deck that's focused on Xyz Summoning Utopia, Shark Drake, and Excalibur( or the other 19 Xyz monsters I have. This is my MAIN strategy:
1: Summon Marauding Captain
2: Activate Double Summon
3: Normal Summon Trident Warrior
4: Trident eff: Special Summon Shine Knight in Defence mode so it's treated as lv4
5: M Captain eff: Special summon Blade Knight
6: Overlay lv 4 Blade Knight+ Shine Kinght+ Trident Warrior= No.32 Shark Drake
7: Attack the opponent's monster and Use Shark Drake's effect: special summon opponent's monster in attack+ it looses 1000 ATK.
8: Attack again.
This strategy can get a good lead on your opponent, especially if this could be done on the first or second turns of the duel. :D
Neo Galaxy -eyes photon Dragon 1st turn
Go second in the duel, (you can guarantee this by choosing to go second if you win the roll/coin toss, or if your opponents wins, they usually choose to go first)
You need four cards in your hand, all of which you can run three of in your deck:
1.Galaxy-Eyes Photon Dragon
2. Hieratic Dragon of Tefnuit
3. Hieratic Dragon of Gebeb
4. Mountain
And you need either two Hieratic Seals of the Sun Dragon Overlord in your deck or hand, or a Seal of the Overlord and any level 8 normal dragon in hand or in the deck or graveyard.
First Special summon Tefnuit, Normal summon Gebeb, then activate mountain tribute them both to Special summon Galaxy -Eyes with its effect, then use the hieratic effect to special the Seal and the level 8 dragon. then, Xyz into Neo Galaxy-Eyes. This works great in Blue-eyes, Photon, and hieratic decks, or any dragon deck, or even just an Xyz setup!
summon lava golem to your
summon lava golem to your opponents field. play mask of restrict, spirit barrier, astral barrier. summon 2 solar flare dragons. few turns go bye, throw away the 3 traps to summon uria and play spiritual fire art to finish up
