Beauty Is in the DetailsThe world of Naruto is vast and complex. The Naruto Shippuden Collector is a good way to get into the smorgasbord of details that Kishimoto-sensei creates, and now we're offering these online treats as the perfect dessert to end your meal! For digital eyes only, here are some extra tidbits from our 11-volume coverage to tide you over until the next Collector!
The Six Paths of the Rinnegan
The Rinnegan is said to have originated with the Sage of the Six Paths, proclaimed as the father of all shinobi. It is believed that the Sage of the Six Paths developed all the jutsu known in the world today. The Rinnegan is rumored to appear when the world becomes corrupt, capable of being either a force of destruction or of creation. And now Jiraiya has encountered the mythical Rinnegan with Nagato, a pupil of his who could very well be the child of prophecy.
Hidden Seeds
Kishimoto-sensei is a mastermind at dropping hints throughout the story in anticipation of the climax. The tale of Shikamaru and Asuma contains some of the best hidden "seeds" for the revelation of Kurenai's pregnancy. Let's follow the hints he leaves for us:
• When Kakashi is laid up in the hospital, Asuma visits him, only to have Kurenai interrupt them. Why was Kurenai at the hospital? • While likening shogi pieces to real-life people, Asuma tells Shikamaru that the "king" is not the Hokage, but someone else instead. Who is the king? • Asuma stops by his father's grave before embarking on his mission. He lets his father know that he finally realizes what he was preaching and that he was a "cool dad." • Shikamaru notices that Asuma has stopped smoking, but his reasoning was wrong. Shikamaru assumes that the reason Asuma stopped smoking was because of his friend's death, but Asuma lets him know otherwise. Why did he really stop?
In the end, Shikamaru realizes that it is his time to grow up and lead Konoha. After all, he isn't doing this for his own sake, but for the sake of the children of Konoha — like Asuma and Kurenai's child.
When It Rains...
Since the Hidden Rain Village is situated between the Three Great Nations of Earth, Wind and Fire, it has often been used as a battleground between the three. War-torn and ravaged, the village became closed-off and insular over the years, requiring extremely strict entry and departure inspections, not to mention closely monitored visitation supervision.
Control over the village's internal affairs prevented news from spreading about the village's Civil War between the Amegakure faction, led by Hanzo of the Giant Salamander, and the opposing faction, led by Pain. In the end, Pain defeated the Amegakure faction, killing all supporters of Hanzo. Because of the village's isolationist policies, it became the perfect headquarters for Pain, since he could closely monitor any intruders and keep news of the Hidden Rain Village from leaking outside. Jiraiya was one of the first outsiders to discover the truth of the Hidden Rain Village, but he was silenced by Pain. The rain still falls like uncontrollable tears in the Hidden Rain Village, but this time, it's the man who once hated it that now assumes control over its future.
Sword Collector
What do the Executioner's Blade and the Samehada have in common? Both swords are Kirigakure Blades, weapons of the Seven Ninja Swordsmen. These seven fabled swords have been passed down from generation to generation. Zabuza was the last to wield the Executioner's Blade, but the sword was left at his tombstone as a memorial. His protégé Hozuki Suigetsu, after Sasuke recruited him, took the blade for his own. Next on his list of swords to collect is the Samehada, but Kisame stands in his way. The two of them share a history together, since Kisame is familiar with Suigetsu's older brother, Hozuki Mangetsu. What is the past history between the two swordsmen? And is Suigetsu strong enough to take on Kisame and his monstrous chakra?
