School's Out!
It's been a wild punch-packed ride, but Takama-ga-hara will be ending with the 11/19 issue of SJ Alpha. It's been a treat watching Yamato grow and harness his god-like powers, and we'll definitely miss the crazy punch-out panels and the exciting school-yard brawls.
Don't miss out on the exciting conclusion to this pugilistically rad manga series inside Weekly Shonen Jump Alpha!

And right after Takama-ga-hara, here's more manga! Plus, we'll be adding more new series in the near future. As for simultaneous, hopefully we'll have a date for everyone soon.
Ok...
Ok...
Just make it last longer this time....
It is too gripping to be done so fast...
Like BARRAGE!
hey vizor did u see my deck

It was starting to get good
Really I hope that when we catch up with Japan's release our surveys will at least count I mean come on really
not gonna happen
As much as that would be the Ideal, you gotta understand, that the price we're paying for SJAlpha ultimately barely pays for the translation services and distribution of the manga we read. Meaning that the Japanese see either nothing or very little from our purchases of this manga. On the other hand the sheer millions of copies of the physical Jumps sold over there drives the economy of that book. Thus the only voting that will have any weight to Shueisha will be the votes from Japanese readers since that's where they make their money from.
Honestly if you want to influence what they may or may not publish I suggest that you find someway to support Shueisha's books directly. The best thing the average person can do is purchase the Tankobons (graphic novels) when they release.
Keep in mind that SJA is mostly an exercise in trying to limit or eliminate scanlation of these popular Manga which is essentially stealing money from from Viz/Shueisha.
What!?
I agree with everyone, like really? come on this was turning out to be a good series. Give us a long lasting series at least 50 chapters or something. ONE PIECE RULES! lol

Another short manga?!
Another short manga, I was really into the story. Both Barrage and Takama-ga-hara were good mangas but, unfortunately they are short. Hope next manga will be good as the others.
First Barrage, and now Takama
First Barrage, and now Takama's getting canceled! Man, some of the new stories just don't end up making the cut. I really hope Horikoshi-sensei and Kawai-sensei come up with a brand new story that will run in Jump for a long time, otherwise, continue where their series left off!
I agree.
I agree.
Next it is the Lacrosse manga.
GRr...
You know," Lose first game, win second, manga is over."
From the rankings of SJ
That's entirely possible. the current rankings for the Cross Manage manga have had it in the bottom 3 of the currently running stories in SJ. If it sinks any lower for an extended period it'll get cancelled just like Takama-ga-hara did. Which I think would be too bad. It's not a bad manga, but ultimately sports manga has had a bad track record on this continent and with a only few exceptions in Japan.
Yah, I agree.
Yah, I agree.
I really like this series; why do more people dislike the real life manga?
Also, I can think of 5 worse series than this:
One Piece
Toriko
Blue Exortist
Kenshin Act Zero
Takama-ga-hara (Sorry, Lacrosse is better)
Not sure really
Honestly, the people of the Anime and Manga industry have been trying to figure out why sports Manga dies a horrible death for years. They love watching it on tv and like tv shows about it, but what read a fictional story about it to save their lives. A lot of the more successful sports titles were closer to romance stories more than sport manga i.e Prince of Tennis, Slam Dunk. Either that or comedy based that happened to have sports in it.
You can tell by what we've seen so far that Cross Manage will be a romance type sports manga as they've subtly laid the ground work for it already. As for Cross Manage being better than those manga you listed I can only agree with you on Blue Exorcist and Toriko. Those 2 were never my favorite, but I've been a Kenshin fan for ages and One Piece although moves it's story at a glacial pace is still interesting enough for me to want to rabidly read the damn thing.
I do not dislike Kenshin; it
I do not dislike Kenshin; it seems cool.
I just hate that it is another series that I was never told about, and never got a chance to catch up with.
You a Yugioh fan?
The original
I liked the original Manga, the twisted shadow games one. I liked even the first solely card based one with Yugi and the gang, but everything after that was honestly just advertising for the card game. The stories weren't very good and just serviced the introduction of new cards for the game.
If your asking about the card game specifically, I like the game, but don't play it. I play it's spiritual parent Magic: the gathering.
@ ulquiorra12321
I have a few cards from when i was young for the first season, but no i dont duel or anything
As soon as Bleach leaves, the
As soon as Bleach leaves, the SJA Empire will collapse.
This is one of their biggest series, and Naruto will end before it.
Within 5-10 years, this magazine with crumble without another long, consistent, and like manga.
DO SOMETHING ABOUT THIS!
I do not want to leave SJA, but when Bleach ends, they will have lost me if they keep up this choppily short manga.
Viz can't promise things like that
TechGenusMaster,
Please keep in mind that SJA and WSJ are not the same Magazine. Yes Bleach is in it's final arc and Masashi Kishimoto has said that Naruto is on the back half of it's run, but Naruto still has a long way to go before it's end unlike Bleach which could very well end before the year is out. It seems that Viz is trying to service us a SJA that has Manga that is just starting out like they do with WSJ to help us keep current with Japan rather than doing what will most likely happen when Bleach and Naruto ends. That being going to one of the other more popular manga in WSJ but be force to skip ahead and catch us up like it did with both Naruto an Bleach in our SJA and Monthly Shonen Jump before it. I would hope that you try to support this extremely cheap and awesome magazine and help support this much needed step forward in the future of Manga distribution.
I will support this magazine
I will support this magazine forever, but it bugs me for certain reasons.
1. Why can't the magazine be consistent? Enough of these "Once a Month" and 2 Month Long mangas.
2. Why can we not have weekly Yugioh? Or a long series?
3. Why is the forum unused and so "bare bone" (Quote Urian Brown)
4. Why not have "re-runs" of sorts. I missed too much Bleach... Fullbringers?
5. It is not that cheap when other site have SJA Manga for free. I pay for the manga and cards, and do not support those sites who offer it for free.
Here are some answers:
Here are some answers:
1. One of the advantages we have here is the flexibility to bring our readers great series from the monthly JUMP SQ magazine, meaning we're bringing out BLUE EXORCIST and RUROUNI KENSHIN: RESTORATION.
2. YGO is serialized in V-JUMP, which is monthly in Japan. If it came out in a weekly publication, it'd be a weekly. We don't have control over that. Your prayer for a longer series might be answered with the one that replaces TAKAMA-GA-HARA. I should know... I'm the editor of that series!
3. Beats me... Wish it was more active too.
4. Defeats the purpose of making our publication weekly and digital.
5. Other sites ILLEGALLY carry their manga for free, where no one is compensated for their hard work (translators, cleaners, designers, editors, and most importantly of all, the creators). Think of it this way, let's say you had a business like a convenient store. Would it be okay for your customers to steal your goods because a friend gave them something like a tissue for free?
When you compare it to the costs of buying each of those series individually, it's very cheap. You're looking at around 10,000 pages of manga for 26 dollars...
That's good
1. It's clear that Viz is (like I mention previously) trying to stay right on the cutting edge of what's new in Japan. The problem is that Viz also has no control over what stays and what goes in Japan. If Takama-ga-hara had been the next Naruto they would have been on the ground floor of it's inception and the fans would rejoice. It's a gamble and the alternative is to print something that's not new and have the (unfortunately overly strong based and stubborn) fans of scanlators continue to get their scanlations of "nest big thing" while Viz says "damn. We should've done that first"
As for the once a month things like Kenshin and Blue Exorcist and the others, remember that those Manga are being printed in a Monthly publication in Japan and are only release 1 chapter a month (See Jump Square Magazine)
2. Yugioh is also a monthly publication so if they caught up to current they'd eventually have to switch to monthly anyway.
3. Can't answer that, but my guess is probably money. I'm sure that the SJA team is a "Bare Bones" team that the price of the magazine barely covers to begin with. It takes Money/Staff to make a go and well moderated and controlled forum.
4.SJA is trying to be a what's new "right now" publication. Releasing re-runs defeats the purpose. In a pinch they have that to fall back to, but I'm sure they don't want to do that.
5. Yes free is certainly cheap, but it's also stealing and gives nothing back to the people who bring you Manga in North America and hopefully some of it is going back to the creators in Japan. I'm glad you don't support the scanlator sites, but when I was referring to cheap comics, understand that the average North American comic book delivers 25-40 pages at $3-$5 and issue and we get almost 200 pages for $1. Granted the comics are in black and white rather than color (most of the time) and ones physical and the other digital, but ultimately that's extremely cheap. I personally would be willing to pay $3 an issue of SJA if I knew that it would deliver better service in the future, but I fear that I'm in the minority in that respect. Most people would want it free or at it's current price.
Parn, you and I are
Parn, you and I are definitely on the same page. Thanks!
No problem
I'm not one to rag on people, I can just understand what's going on and hope to inform people on the realities of things. I admire the work you guys are doing and am glad to support you and your team on SJA. keep up the good work.
Also
Good luck with the Day and Date releases when they happen. I know that's gonna be a massive undertaking and will require lots of hard your on you and your teams part, not only to get the material but also to clean, translate and format for digital distribution. Hopefully everything goes smoothly and I'll look forward to it when it happens.
Thanks for your opinions guys
Thanks for your opinions guys.
Is it possible to sue or bust the people who steal this manga? I hate those kinds of people.
Thanks for the clarification of Yugioh Manga. This could be neat, And I was wondering if it could happen:
Could you release ads one week, and Zexal the next week? Even if not simultaneous?
Probably not, but I can hope.
I am now excited with the upcoming manga. Can I get a spoiler? LOLZ.
Anyway, thanks again. Needed this cleared up.
I was wondering if I could make (more like recommend) changes to SJA. I believe the fans voices should be heard a little more. You are doing a good job now, but I think some fans go unheard.
I would also like it if it was more active; things like polls, surveys, and things to add to forum would pack this place. Thanks SJA for good manga, forums, and Yugioh cards.
I just believe that there is always room for improvement.
BTW Where should I go to catch up on missed manga?
I want to read about Fullbrings, and learn some about Naruto. It seems good (well, the flashbacks) and I like the artwork, like Obito's ( is that his name?) eye.
But, with comics, you keep
But, with comics, you keep them.
Why does this vanish at the end of the year?
That is like borrowing the manga, and a waste of money after a while.
I like to archive my manga and read it later. It still read all of the SJ PRINT I have. I liked the last issue a lot.
We need to have it to where we KEEP the manga on digital.
Or I can print 10,000 pages of manga. 0_0
This is once again an attempt
This is once again an attempt to mirror the Japanese publication practices.
In Japan, Weekly Shonen Jump is printed on extremely cheap, low-grade paper, and is sold for just a couple hundred yen (about $3 American).
The poor printing quality, together with the phonebook-size of the magazines themselves, means that they aren't really meant to be collected or saved. While some people do collect their magazines, most people simply recycle them or give them away when they're done reading their favorite series.
If a Japanese person likes a series, they buy the tankobon (trade paperback) volumes of the manga when they get release. These are printed with better ink on higher quality paper, and usually contain corrections and improved art, as well as special features.
So, with Weekly Shonen Jump Alpha, what you do is buy a year subscription and get access to the serialized version of the manga for an entire year, or you have the option to rent individual issues for a week.
However, if you really like a series, you should buy the print or digital editions of the trade volumes, which are permanent and of a generally higher quality.
Catch-up
If you want to catch up on bleach go vizmanga.com and purchase bleach volumes 49-current vloumes. Also, i understand thta you don't like certain series, but that doesn't mean they suck.( ex. One piece is currently the highest selling manga of all time in japan.) Also, i feel ya on the whole surveys and stuff. hope this helped.
Thanks dude. Haven't heard
Thanks dude. Haven't heard from you in a while.
And yes, they do not suck, just do not like them. And what I also want to say is this:
I do not have the money for that but I want ALL the Bleach manga in print. That is one thing to save my money for. Hate Digital Manga at times, SJA is great and big, but it is a waste to me with VIZ for just one volume.
One issue of jump is bigger than a whole volume of Bleach, and cheaper.
The digital release although
The digital release although cheaper than the physical is the way Viz truly makes their money. as I stated before the cost of SJA probably barely pays for the labor and effort as well as the bandwidth and host needed for it's distribution. The books/ebooks cost more and are more permanent that the SJA to pay for the massive overhead and make them profit (as they deserve for their work) and even then they're still probably not making that much. I understand where your coming from, but trust me when I say that eventually you'll want a way like I did to get manga with it not taking up space. My basement and cloests are proof of that. There will also be a time as much as you don't believe it now, when you'll not want to go back and read the old stuff again and then you'll be wishing you had a way to get rid of all the Manga you have lying around :P
Well they are releasing the
Well they are releasing the bleach more en mass at the moment and if you buy the digital versions should catch up soon to the current arc in the Graphic novel releases. I too missed the Fullbring arc, but I have a feeling from the first part of it I read, that it really wasn't that interesting.
Naruto like Bleach is being caught up quickly as well, but a lot of the flashbacks we see in the current story were things never revealed before in the series. (The creator is re-writing his stories history sometimes) so as much as some things will be cleared up reading the loads of previous story, there will still be a lot of missing parts that still haven't been revealed. For instance in this latest issue we found out that Kakashi killed Rin. I don't think that tidbit was revealed previously. This flashback mini arc also brought Obito Uchiha which we knew about and we kinda knew Kakashi had his eye, but like a lot of filler/delay tactic stuff this mini arc expanded on that story.
If you want to catch up on
If you want to catch up on Naruto, you can buy the digital volumes on vizmanga.com, though that's really expensive if you want to read the whole series.
This is one thing I wish viz would come up with a solution for, perhaps an option to rent volumes for a week so that people can catch up.
What I'd recommend, instead, is to maybe watch the anime.
Viz has every single episode of Naruto Shippuden available online for free, with subtitles, on http://www.naruto.com, with new episodes uploaded a week after they air in Japan.
I'd suggest starting with episodes 257-260, which recap the events of the classic Naruto series, then jumping back to episode 1.
You can also watch dub episodes of the classic and Shippuden series on http://www.vizanime.com.
DearWeeklyShonenJumpAlpha
Why do you cancle the good manga?i try to give every manga a chance in this magazine and i read every manga every signle issue i have ever gotten from you in print and online. The reason i give every manga a chance is to try to read something new like i did Cross Manage though BARRAGE was cancled due to popularity statis.I understand that in japan BARRAGE was not liked very well i get that but to cancle a manga that was doing well in the states and maybe other countries was i do not know how to explain that anyways i know you just linked with japan a few weeks ago or maybe just this week but when i hear a manga title cancle because of popularity if that is the case i see no point in reading it because of two reasons one is because the manga will have a cliffhanger at the end like BARRAGE did and two the manga ka might have beeen his/her only job.You could also try to keep it in the alpha linuep though its cancled in japan we could always have more series over here.we need more though people say we got plenty we need good continue running manga here in the states. Also Toonami is back to just a suggestion you could put some anime on it like NARUTO because BLEACH and GhostInTheShell and CowboyBebop are on the air again and ending soon just a suggestion and NARUTO never finsihed on the air because Toonami was cancled than NARUTO Shippuden was put on disneyXd up until i think death of Tazuna anyways all i am trying to say why cancle a good running manga and here is a perfect example why hasn't toriko been cancled?i love that manga and its talked alot in the comment boards as much as TakamaGaHara and BARRAGE is but you don't cancle series like that.why may i ask????is it because they are at the top of popularity statis?
Kyle
Viz does not control what Manga is made in Japan, Viz only translates what they make for Manga fans here. They can not afford to keep a series like Takama-Ga-Hara or Barrage going here in North America alone. Shueisha is a billion dollar company and can afford doing essentially what they want. Viz, While owned by Shueisha, can't pay for the creation of new or the continuation of cancelled series and the profits of SJA alone. All we can do is hope that the new fresh series that Viz adds to SJA will be long lived.
I'm sorry
i was just trying to give you new ideas. And i didn't know that Viz had no control over it.I didn't know any of that.I still wish we had BARRAGE and pretty soon TakamaGa-Hara continued but you know the old saying forget the past begin anew.Anyways i was just wandering how you cancle manga and such i never asked that question before.I thank you for that info.I will reamain a fan of your magazine forever.it feels like it was the only thing when Toonami died in 2008 that had some anime feel to it.Can you tell us what will replace BLEACH in the Toonami??if not its fine and i can wait.I also wanted to thank you for your time.Am glad Toonami is back on adultswim at 12pm on Saturdays and glad you guys are still making great manga.i will read it forever.Sincerely, Your Forever fan.

LOLZ Jkn. NO good manga will EVER succeed Bleach. There is nothing like it. People can say this about every manga, and it still holds true.
people in Japan said the same about Dragon Ball
But then Bleach, Naruto came along. There is always something else.
Awesome
That's the epic thing about Jump: When a series ends, there's always another to pass the torch onto. A series run can end, but it's legacy, no matter how small or short, lives on.
I do not believe that.
I do not believe that.
A legacy lives on forever; none succeed it, none pass the torch.
This kind of manga becomes a legend.
Naruto came before Bleach, right?

I will say that I can not vote, but if I could, I would vote for either. I hate elections; they bring up too much talk at school, and a bunch of people trying to change my opinion. I hate that.
Not on SJA, just about life and voting. Politics is more accurate. Half of America's eligible voters do not vote, yet have opinions on who is sworn in. WHY?
