REVIEW: This Week's ALPHA

Cover
art by Eiichiro Oda
It’s raining One Piece covers! This is our third one in a row! Not that I’m complaining, I’m always happy to see Mr. Monkey D. Luffy grace our covers. And that’s a pretty cool Trafalgar Law in the back. I saw a lot of great Trafalgar cosplayers in our whirlwind convention tour last year. Seems like you could wear that outfit to a club or party and still get respect.

One Piece

It looks like Caesar Clown’s rescue party has hit a snag in the form of General Franky! This new enemy, Baby 5, with her ability to transform into any weapon is a hoot! Especially the subtle Bleach reference! Funny stuff!

Naruto
by Masashi Kishimoto
Naruto and his forces are in serious trouble! Ten Tails unleashes one of its most deadly attacks yet! The Wood Style Sprigs attack, which fills the air with thousands of deadly wooden stakes! And Naruto can’t do anything about it until he has enough time to recuperate! Can one of his teammates buy him some time? And if so, what will be the price?!

Nisekoi
by Naoshi Komi
Raku’s somehow finds himself helping Marika to study, and Chitoge invites herself along. With both girls hot for him, can he keep this study group from becoming a study grope? The antics don't stop as Raku continues to be caught up in a never-ending series of awkward situations. I’m glad my life isn’t this complicated.

Toriko
by Mitsutoshi Shimabukuro
The Cooking Festival gets wild as the chefs compete in the second stage of the Cooking Triathlon! It’s a crazy bicycle race with ferocious monsters at every turn. Unfortunately for these monsters, a lot of the chefs are just as tough as Gourmet Hunters. Can Komatsu compete with all these legendary chefs?

Cross Manage
by Kaito
It’s game time! The Fujioka High School team is nervous, but they’ve practiced hard and are ready for the fight…that is until gameday. They’re stiff as boards, and it’s Sakurai’s job to loosen them up. Can he find the right words?

Bleach
by Tite Kubo

Ichigo and Renji are on to their next stage in their training by the eccentric characters of Squad Zero. And their next task? Eat!!! I have to say, I've been enjoying the heck out of Bleach lately. Kubo Sensei has always done “wacky” well, and this arc has been full of laughs. I guess training can be fun!

Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal
Original Concept by Kazuki Takahashi
Story by Shin Yoshida, Art by Naohito Miyoshi
Production Support: STUDIO DICE
The Numbers War continues! And it’s still not clear exactly who is on whose side, as Yuma finds out when he witnesses Kyoji Yagumo’s henchman dueling Kaito! There are some really cool Shogi-themed cards and monsters in this Duel. I wonder if these cards will ever become real cards in Japan, and if they’ll ever release them in the States. I wonder!

I enjoyed the original Yugioh (the stuff by Kazuki Takahashi) but I think the spin-offs are getting worse in chronological order. there for, I believe that Zexal is currently the worst manga in WSJA. I liked the rest of this issue though.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Zexal rocks! I think GX is number one, but Zexal is in a close second.
