How/when did you start watching Naruto?

In an attempt to get some discussion going here, I thought I'd bring up a fairly simple question: how did you get into the Naruto anime? Did you read the manga first, did someone recommend it, etc.

I had heard about this series in online forums for awhile, so I ended up checking it out when it first aired on Cartoon Network. Interest in the manga soon followed, partly due to accidently hearing spoilers of things to come later in the series.

It was all downhill from there!

I must of been in like 9th grade, so probably around 2004-2005ish. I remember buying all that was out at the time, probably up to volume 6 or 7 or something and then reading a ton of what wasn't released yet online (and of course bought it afterwards :) )

I actually started watching the anime when I was 8 or 9, but got scared of it when I saw Itachi kill his family, so I stopped watching it and a few years later my cousin got me into the Akatsuki which led to me getting into the manga. After seeing how terribly they did the Naruto vs. Pain battle, I have no interest in watching the anime over reading the manga. But I'm probably still going to search for scenes I want to see animated on youtube. (like Kisame being eaten by sharks...)

You were scared when Itachi killed his family, but now you are going to search for the episode when Kisame is eaten by sharks! It a little funny how things change as we get older. ^-^

Way back when I used to read Naruto in Shonen Jump, I had been a subscriber for a long time. After about a year or so of reading Naruto in Shonen Jump, they started airing the anime on Toonami, which I also watched every Saturday night. While I don't watch the dub anymore, ever since Toonami ended, I still watch the subs as they come out weekly.

As dumb as it probably sounds, I forget when I started reading Naruto!
I may have caught on to it via DBZ, and since I don't buy every SJ issue, the storyline is sort of broken for me, so I catch off the previously on and piece together what happened, sometimes even reading old manga volumes, or I ask my brother who is really consistent on what is happening in the Naruto manga.
But I have never been into the anime, especially since it ran on DISNEY XD (the channel I don't think is anime worthy), ever since I learned about CARTOON NETWORK not airing anime anymore I haven't watched any Bobobobobobo or DBZ, (and I have never watched Bleach, either), and I don't like watching those subbed. Instead I watch Bakuman, Blue Exorcist (on some occasions), and Prince of Tennis subbed.

I started watching Naruto when it was on toonami on cartoonetwork. Once it was taken off the air, I started reading the manga and have never looked back.

Well I didn't have interest when it first came out (probably because I didn't have cable then). But afterwards, I see my friends talking about it, and I was at my cousins house, and they were watching the Ninja Clash in the Land of Snow movie. So I tagged along and Naruto got a little interesting. Then after that scene in which all the samurai get knifed by the oncoming kunai turrets, I got a little freaked out ("no way, there's blood in Naruto?!" and I was only like 11 or 12 then!). Overtime, the series rubbed off on me, and i've been a fan since. Also got used to gore, mainly in anime, but still looks painful :P Anyway, that's my story ^_^
