The Straw Hats are back in action and ready to conquer the New World! But first they’ll have to navigate through Fish-man Island and its complicated relationship with the human world.
Fish-man Island Facts
The Red Line is a great wall that circles the world and separates the Grand Line from the New World. Fishman Island is located about 30,000 feet underwater in a big hole at the bottom of the Red Line. For lawless passengers that want to enter the New World, going to Fish-man Island is the only route available.
To get to Fish-man Island, you must first travel to Sabaody Archipelago located in the Grand Line. While there, a ship needs to be coated by a professional ship coater in order to travel underwater. After the coating is done, travel to Fishman Island via the Seafloor Route, a dangerous path fraught with Sea Monsters and Neptunians!
Fish-man Island Inhabitants
There are two types of citizens living at Fish-man Island—Fish-people and Merfolk. Luffy and company are already familiar with both.
Merfolk are easy to distinguish. Their upper bodies are human while their lower halves are fish. However, when they reach the age of 30, their fins split in half, giving them the appearance of having legs. Kokoro, the station master of Shift Station near Water Seven, is an Icefish mermaid whose tailfin split in two.
Fish-people are insanely strong, possessing ten times the strength of normal humans. Their strength is magnified when fighting underwater. Fish-people resemble marine life, so they come in all different aquatic shapes and sizes such as octopuses, sharks, etc. Hachi is an octopus Fish-man who uses his aquatic features to great advantage—he can wield six swords at once!
Tensions between Fish-man Island inhabitants and humans always existed, with both races looking down on the other as inferior. In the human world, black-market slave prices list Fish-people and Merfolk as the most valued commodity.
Watch Out For... Pirates!
Ever since the days of Fisher Tiger, the ill-famed Fish-man that freed captives from slavery including Boa Hancock, Fish-man pirate crews are notorious for their ruthlessness and overwhelming strength. Luffy and crew already dispatched Arlong in the East Blue, but now they'll have to deal with the next generation of Fish-men pirates!
