Duelist Alliance introduced four incredible new strategies to the Yu-Gi-Oh! TCG, and The New Challengers has new cards for all four of them! We already looked at the new Burning Abyss cards a while back, so this week we’ll take a look at three new Yang Zing cards!

The Yang Zing strategy is all about Synchro Summoning. Each of the basic Yang Zing monsters lets you Synchro Summon during your opponent’s turn and enhances any Synchro Monster they’re used to make. The original Yang Zing monsters could grant your Synchro Monster immunity from Spells, Traps or battle, or it could add 500 ATK and DEF. Taotie, Shadow of the Yang Zing is Level 5 with 2200 ATK, extending the range of Synchro possibilities, and its special ability prevents a Synchro Monster from switching possession. Possession is different than control—not only does Taotie’s ability prevent a monster from being snagged by cards like Number 11: Big Eye or Creature Swap, it also prevents them from being absorbed by cards like Number 101: Silent Honor ARK.

Jiaotu, Darkness of the Yang Zing is a new Level 2 Tuner that lets you turn any two “Yang Zing” cards in your hand into two Special Summons from the Deck! It’s never been easier to grab various monsters from your Deck to use for Synchro Summons. Plus it gives you a great way to get back into a Duel even when you draw more monsters than you can play. Remember, all your Yang Zing monsters can Special Summon other Yang Zing monsters, so any Yang Zing monster in your hand can be swapped for Jaiotu if you can get it destroyed in battle or by a card effect. Jaiotu makes it super easy to Summon Baxia, Brightness of the Yang Zing and send three cards back to your opponent’s Deck, but it also makes it really easy to Summon the brand-new Synchro Monster, Yazi, Evil of the Yang Zing!

Yazi, Evil of the Yang Zing is a Level 7 Synchro Monster with 2600 ATK that cannot be targeted by any of your opponent’s cards or effects. It can also destroy Yang Zing monsters and enemy cards, much like Scrap Dragon, and replaces itself with a Wyrm-Type monster from the Deck if it’s destroyed and sent to the Graveyard. With Jaiotu, you can Special Summon Pulao, Wind of the Yang Zing and Suanni, Fire of the Yang Zing from your Deck so you can Synchro Summon a 3100 ATK, Spell-immune Yazi. That means that not only will the myriad of targeting Trap Cards and monster effects be useless against it, powerful non-targeting Spells like Raigeki and Dark Hole also won’t help, giving your Yazi plenty of time to dominate the Duel!
